03 / THE REASON

For the days
you’ll remember.

HOW WE DO WHAT WE DO / PURE SURFERS, SERIOUS CURIOSITY

Some dreams don’t get smaller
when you look closely.
They become a list of things to build.

PureSurfers began with a familiar ritual: checking surf information across several places, trying to assemble a clear picture of the coast, and wanting something that felt better to use. I wanted an atlas I would reach for first. Something useful enough to become part of the day.

I brought years of surfing, design, illustration and development to that question. Then the question kept growing. Could the map be more readable? Could every place have its own identity? Could we separate the swells? Could the bottom beneath a wave help explain what we were seeing?

That is how this project grows: curiosity becomes a question; the question becomes work; the work becomes something another surfer can use.

THE COAST IS CALLING.

I’m building
toward a life
that can answer.

01

Knowledge belongs
in the open.

I believe the ocean is something everyone has a right to enjoy, and that knowledge of surfing—its skills, history, discoveries and hard-earned understanding—is worth preserving and sharing.

That belief comes with care for the places and people involved. A point on a map is not permission to cross private property, a guarantee of safe conditions, or a substitute for respect in the water. Useful knowledge should help us arrive with more understanding.

Surf Insights is part of that commitment: practical learning that stays freely accessible.

02

Take the camera.
Go to the coast.

One of my ambitions is to travel to the spots in this atlas and photograph them myself. To replace placeholders with images made in the right place, with time spent looking. To bring more firsthand attention back into the pages.

That would be a milestone for PureSurfers and a personal dream fulfilled. It is something I have wanted to do for much of my life.

I also want this project to become a lasting livelihood: work I can be proud of, time to keep making it better, and something that helps support the people I love. Useful to surfers, meaningful to its builder, sustainable enough to continue.

03

You can begin before
you know the whole route.

I don’t have a finished success story to offer. I have a working project that once existed only as an idea, a growing list of problems solved, and plenty still to learn.

The distance between those things was crossed through specific work: one page, one calculation, one correction, one uncomfortable admission that something needed another look. Some of the most important progress began with “that number doesn’t look right.”

If something keeps calling you back, take it seriously enough to give it a first useful form. Then put it in contact with reality. Let people use it. Let the mistakes teach you. Keep making the next part real.

A dream becomes harder to dismiss
when someone can use it.

Use it. Question it.
Help it get better.

A thoughtful correction, a report with a time and place, or sharing the atlas with someone who will actually use it all matter. The work has already become something real. The next chapter is helping it last.
