What the map tells you

PureSurfers brings together a California coastal catalogue, three-origin seven-day wave guidance, wind, tides, weather, sea-surface temperature and links to public camera viewers. Forecast grids are regional and can overlap; there is not a sensor at each break.

NOAA GFS-Wave, ECMWF WAM and Météo-France originate separately but the normal transport is the shared Open-Meteo gateway. Direct NOAA bulletins are an alternate route for GFS, not a fourth model. Buoy observations remain separate from predictions.

Breaking-face heights are an uncalibrated transformation of offshore significant wave height. The set proxy is 1.5 times the estimated face, not a maximum. Model spread is disagreement, not a confidence interval. Sand, tide-dependent quality and detailed reef geometry are not dynamically solved. Water temperatures are regional model estimates and separate nearby buoy observations, not beach thermometers.

Public cameras open on their operators’ sites; playback and freshness can change. Traffic is road-speed guidance from an optional provider, not beach crowding.

Accounts and privacy

You can browse without an account. Guest favorites and journal notes stay in browser storage. When configured and explicitly used, Supabase provides verified email sign-in and account favorites; account alert settings and inbox records are stored there too. Account-linked email alerts and per-device push require separate consent and an operating scheduled worker. Product-update email consent is separate. Journal text, sessions and personal pin corrections are not silently uploaded to the account.

The configured email sender, Supabase, hosting provider and push services process the information necessary for their respective services. The map requests third-party map tiles; opening a camera visits its provider. The application adds no advertising or analytics tracker. Server and provider access logs may still exist.

Use My account to change product-email consent and sign out. Use My alerts to pause rules and stop email or remove a device. Export your journal before clearing site data or changing domains. Account deletion currently requires an owner-assisted verified request; local journals and legacy device subscriptions must be handled separately. Retention and backup policies of the host and processors also apply.

The operator’s public support address has not yet been configured. Public account enrollment should remain off until a contact and final privacy notice are in place.

Content and access

The catalogue is inherited and approximate, not an exhaustive geographic survey. Source links describe provenance, not commercial permission or proof of accuracy. Private land, closures, habitat and water quality must be checked independently. Search-only coastal-memory names remain visibly unlocated. Surf Insights articles are researched working drafts pending local editorial revision, not invented firsthand testing.
