The National Park Service’s Ocean Beach page is the official visitor reference for the San Francisco beach. It is a different place from Ocean Beach in San Diego. Search results and map bookmarks should make that distinction explicit. Kelly’s Cove, the main Ocean Beach entry and Fort Point remain separate atlas references, rather than aliases for a single takeoff.
The regional height is a common reference point, not a complete description of a beachbreak or a point. Use it to follow the change through the day, then inspect the model direction, period and wind. CDIP’s public observations and regional wave products are an additional way to check the larger picture, without pretending they measure every sandbar.
Decide where an entry and exit would actually work before treating a promising forecast as a reason to paddle out. Keep named sections and distinctive landmarks straight. A useful field note says which section was observed and when; “Ocean Beach was good” loses much of the information another session could teach you.

A useful first comparison
Use the main Ocean Beach reference and Kelly’s Cove at the same time setting, then inspect the actual beach. Do not carry an offshore height directly into Fort Point as a face-height estimate. Keep that reference available, but let the observed wave and your ability determine the decision.
