UCSB’s shoreline work focuses on the Campus Lagoon and Lagoon Road corridor, including access and habitat. The university’s CoastSnap project records changing beach conditions from photographs at East Campus Beach. Apply that same dated-observation habit to your own surf notes: which section, what tide and what happened. Campus Point and Isla Vista labels should not collapse into one undifferentiated forecast.

Early UCSB surfers used the fraternity-derived Sig Ep name. The productive sand/bedrock mix changed after the 1964 storm, so the useful peak still moves with sand and tide.

Local history treats the Cove separately from Campus Point and Lowers / Poles. A major February 1964 storm reportedly erased the setup for years; later sand cycles can still create an inside line.
